A former Muncie state Senator has announced her campaign for the state House seat once held by Muncie’s new mayor. Today, Democrat Sue Errington announced she wants to be the next State Representative for District 34. Errington says she plans to file the required paperwork at the Secretary of State’s office tomorrow. In her campaign announcement, she says jobs and education will be her top two priorities.
New Muncie Mayor Dennis Tyler served as the state Representative for District 34 until he stepped down to take the mayor’s chair. A Democratic committee named longtime Democratic activist Mike White to fill the remainder of Tyler’s term. Errington wasn’t eligible to be appointed to the seat because she didn’t live in the district boundaries. New boundary lines took effect on January 1st and put her in the re-drawn district. White has said that he will not run for a full term. He also says the district needs to be represented by someone who’s younger than Errington and himself.
Until 2010, Errington served as the state Senator for District 26. She was defeated by Republican Doug Eckerty of Yorktown. She has also worked as a teacher and a public policy director for Planned Parenthood of Indiana.
