The state Department of Workforce Development is rolling out a new program that pairs GED courses with occupational training. The GED Plus initiative will use career counselors to match GED students up with a career path and match training classes up with their GED program. Gina DelSanto says students will finish academic courses with marketable skills.
Tony Carnevale is the director of the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce. Speaking to the state education roundtable today, he says he sees a shift in focus from attaining simple academic certificates to more occupational training.
The GED Plus program is a partnership between Workforce Development and adult education providers around the state.
