School Start Date Issue Still Up In The Air

(STATEHOUSE) – THE SENATE HAS REJECTED AN ATTEMPT TO FORCE SCHOOLS TO EXTEND SUMMER VACATION THROUGH LABOR DAY — BUT IT‘S NOT NECESSARILY DEAD. IT TAKES 26 VOTES TO PERMANENTLY DEFEAT A BILL. WITH TWO SENATORS ABSENT, THE VOTE AGAINST THE SCHOOL-YEAR BILL WAS 25-23. THAT MEANS THE BILL‘S AUTHOR CAN CALL FOR A REVOTE ANY TIME BETWEEN NOW AND FEBRUARY 23, THE DEADLINE FOR THE SENATE TO PASS ITS BILLS.
