Wayne County deputy hit while investigating accident on I-70

A Wayne County sheriff’s deputy was struck on I-70 this morning as he was investigating an earlier crash.  Christopher Blackwell was standing outside his parked police cruiser, which was behind two wrecked semi-trailers with flashing lights activated.    A box truck approaching the accident site wasn’t able to slow down and swerved into Deputy Blackwell.  Blackwell was taken to a Richmond hospital and then transferred to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.  I-70 in Wayne County was closed for five hours while police cleared the wreckage.

Information was provided by the Indiana State Police.
