A coating of ice on roads and sidewalks today kept most area kids out of school and sent vehicles into ditches and into each other. Police and emergency crews around the IPR listening area responded to hundreds of crashes today – most coming during the morning commute. Emergency crews also attended to many Hoosiers who slipped and fell on ice, causing head injuries and broken bones. Besides driving slowly, Indiana State Police have a few tips for the evening drive home. They say to leave extra distance between you and vehicles in front of you – especially trucks – in case someone starts to slide. They also say not to use cruise control on icy roads.
