Top Indiana officials met today for an education roundtable that set the state’s education agenda for the upcoming legislative session. Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels and state schools superintendent Tony Bennett focused on school accountability, charter schools, and teacher pay.
Indiana officials want all private universities to be able to create charter schools … and want to organize a statewide charter school board. Governor Daniels also reiterated that he wants teacher pay to be tied to student learning through standardized tests and other factors of success. House and Senate Education Committee Chairs Bob Behning and Dennis Kruse say they’re planning to introduce several different education bills … instead of one all-encompassing piece of legislation.
