Muncie considers mo-ped rules

Muncie is considering adopting rules governing mo-ped scooters.  Muncie Police Chief Deborah Davis tells Muncie’s Star Press that she wants the city council to adopt Indiana state regulations – with a few extras.  The proposal would require mo-ped owners to register their scooters with the city.  It would cost owners thirty-five dollars the first year, and fifteen dollars to renew each year.  Scooters would also have to pass a local inspection to make sure they are legal to be on the road.  Muncie would also ban scooter passengers that are 15 years old or younger, except with written permission from their guardians.  The mo-ped rules proposal passed unanimously in its introductory bid.  A final bid will be taken at the September city council meeting.
