Anderson’s mayor says more city layoffs are possible, while officials try to balance the city budget. City officials discussed budget cutting measures during a special Tuesday afternoon meeting. Recent estimates show a shortfall of three-point-four million dollars by December of 2011. Kris Ockomon told the Anderson City Council that he didn’t see a way around laying off some city workers. In addition to a layoff, the council discussed solutions like having city workers pay more for health insurance and prescription drugs… a potential across-the-board five percent salary cut… and asking the state to reduce property tax caps in the city by declaring Anderson a “distressed unit of government.”
